The stadium gate, the office and the seat in front of you

Missnine started in 2019 in New York with a single bag and a single complaint. The bag was a canvas tote with a padded sleeve for a 15.6 inch laptop. The complaint was that every other laptop bag we at Missnine could find either weighed three pounds empty or fit the laptop only on the diagonal. So the first Missnine piece was drawn around the laptop, with the sleeve measured before the outside was, and it weighed a pound and a half.

That is still the order of work in the Missnine workshop. A bag is drawn around the thing it will carry: a laptop, a stadium rule, the space under an airline seat, a phone and a wallet. The outside dimensions come last, and they go on the page in inches, length by width by height, because a bag bought on a photograph is a bag returned.

Every new piece is carried for a month with a real load before the strap is approved. The people behind Missnine argue about pockets more than about colours. Eight interior pockets on the laptop tote is the number that survived the argument.

What the page tells you

The size in inches from the maker's data. The material as the maker names it: canvas, vegan leather, PVC, suede. The laptop size the sleeve takes. Whether the bag meets the 12 by 6 by 12 inch clear-bag rule. The weight empty. The closure, the strap, the pockets, and whether a pouch comes with it. Claims like water-repellent and RFID blocking are printed as the maker's words, under that label, because we read them on the page rather than test them.

What Missnine does not do

A Missnine clear bag does not hide anything, and the page says so. A canvas tote is not waterproof. A hobo carries less than its flat measurement suggests. Where a title says leather without saying PU or vegan, the page prints the word as the maker's and does not add to it. The guide on the leather rules explains why.
